The coiled lines they are or were originally referring to are the looped brake lines off the master not the lines with the coils as in your photos. A car is not always built with perfect accuracy.

Why are brake lines coiled at the master cylinder. The two looped lines that you see under the master in this photo. Why do brake lines curl off master cylinder. Act as though your trying to stretch the brake line around the pipe and wrap it as tight as you can. You can bend your lines in a straight manner to serve the same purpose if you prefer its just not usually as effective. Two technicians are discussing why the brake lines are coiled near the master cylinder on many vehicles. Just find a piece of lead pipe the size of the coil you want clamp the pipe in a vise then wrap the brake line around the pipe.
Also there is a clamp above the the coil between the coil and master. Technician a says that these coils help prevent moisture from flowing from the master cylinder to the calipers. So one can only assume that the engineers had the right idea but the designers screwed it up. As for the coils they are there to serve as strain reliefs for the hard brake lines so that they dont crack due to the relative motion between the chassis and the body. It should be coiled and it is very easy to do and get a perfect coil every time. These explanations would make sense if all the lines from the master cylinder were coiled but theyre not.
Looped probably would have been better terminology instead of coiled in this case just because were the conversation has gone down and through the brake system instead of just below the master cylinder. On one car the distance from the master cylinder to the anti lock brake system pump will be slightly different from that on another. The extra flexibility added to the brake lines allows cars to be assembled even though they are slightly different from one another.
