Appears durable so far and the aluminum shield isnt really necessary but there is no need to pay more for an item that will do the same job. But can give you a more accurate and detailed picture of the engines overall health.
In aircraft the leak down test is used because you dont want to stand next to a spinning prop doing a compression test. The tester then measures the volume of air needed to maintain a predetermined pressure in the cylinder. This cylinder leak down tester gauges leak down tests more accurately than standard compression tests.
