I believe that i am tryign to crank over the motor with full compression on every cylinder none of the valves are adjusted so they are all closed. Didnt matter if the device itself was bolted to iron or plastic unless that spade was grounded through the safety systems it wasnt going to engage.

Does a solenoid need to be grounded. Well i think i figured out whats up. When you need to wire a new solenoid into your johnson outboard motors ignition system hold the solenoid in your hand so that the two small terminals are facing you. The solenoid is grounded the the thin sheet metal in the trunk. Some years and models of amc not including jeep cj grounded via a spade terminal on the back of the starter solenoid. Solenoid valves are opened and closed via a solenoid activated by an electrical signal including all types of flow paths and proportional solenoid valves.
On the high current load side terminal 30 the big threaded post on the solenoid is the same as terminal 30 a standard relay as it is the source of voltage that you want to remotely switch on. The large threaded. This type of solenoid valve normally has one inlet and one outlet and is used to permit and shut off fluid flow. It was part of the system in certain years. The small terminal to the right is for the starter. 1 two way solenoid valves.
Ground activated switches are a bit different in that the switch coil is internally connected to the bat post. The small threaded terminal to the left is for the wire from the starter. In most industrial applications solenoid valves are arranged as the following five types. The battery is grounded to the rear frame rail. There is no terminal 85 for the ground side since the solenoid and starter are grounded by their physical connection to the engine block. Most 3 post solenoids have their base or mounting grounded so when a signal comes from the start switch it flows through the coil pulling in the contact and continues to ground through the solenoid mount.
