Chrome vs ceramic headers. Novice66 frequent contributor posts. Ceramic is better for sure helps keep the heat in the headers which helps scavange exhaust a bit better plus the rust factor although it would take years for the chrome ones to rust out. Overall the ceramic coating just holds up alot better over time looks better imho and dissipates heat much quicker than chrome its also called a thermal barrier btw. Ceramic headers can maintain their out of the box chrome like appearance for many years and the smooth surface makes them easy to clean. Plus they look really cool chrome will eventually discolor. I wouldnt worry too much about heat in your engine bay from a header.
Stainless will radiate more heat into the engine compartment than ceramic coated headers will. My lce ceramic header keeps down the heat pretty well. Also since the heat is staying inside the headers the exhaust gases will be hotter and will flow more remember as air cools it becomes more dense. Ceramic coatings help to deflect heat away from what ever surface they are applied to on headers they help keep the engine compartment cooler and the heat inside the primary tubes allowing for a better scavenging effect which means slightly more hp. Stainless steel headers can also be quite shiny when theyre polished but they do discolor to a hot metal shade of tawny gold fading to cobalt blue around the hottest areas.
