Can you plug a smart plug into an extension cord. Anything plugged into a smart outlet can be controlled as one thing. On paper yes you can. Otherwise stay away from things like space heaters and other power hungry appliances. So if you plug the extension cable into a wall outlet or plug in outlet everything on the extension will be turned offon as one. I want the smart plug in the wall socket the extension lead in the smart plug reason is to use amazon alexa to shut down the smart plug. In the extension i have the tv sky box sky router dvd player and about 3 other things.
From my experience if the wemo is plugged into the wall outlet and you plug an extension cord into the wemo plug alexa or whatever smart speaker you have will turn on the entire cord. You can however plug a power strip directly into the wall outlet and then put multiple wemo plugs on the power strip and name each one accordingly to each device. Also make sure that your smart plug isnt so heavy that its weighing down the extension cord and making the connection loose. Using a plug in style on an extension cable with multiple outlets could be an issue because of its size blocking some extension outlets. I want to have 2 lamps that are on and off together on either side of my sofa to save money could i use 1 smart plug and extension cords. For example this belkin surge protector has a 14 gauge cord so youll want to make sure that your extension cord is 14 gauge or better.
The biggest thing is making sure the extension cord can handle the same amount of load as the surge protector or more. And just like with power strips and outlet taps make sure you get an extension cord that can handle any heavy loads.
