2 red 2 black wires light switch. It has 4 wires 2 red and 2 black the 2 black go to two different common terminals and the 2 red go to two different l2 terminals what type of switch is this and how do i replace it as the new switches only have two terminals l1 and l2 this is the only switch for the kitchen light so it is not a 2 way switch or anything like that. Connect the 2 black wires 1each to the brass screws on the new switch. How is it connected at the moment. If the switch that was there is a standard light switch with two brass screws on it and one green screw you can connect the red wire to either of the brass screws. None are hot unless the other light switch is turned on in which one of the reds is hot. Hello can anyone help me i need to install a new light switch which has 1c 2. Green yellow earths together. The switch looks like this. I tested the other wires on the hot red to see which turn the light on and thats one of the black wires. Yep just transfer the wires across to the new switch connecting them to the same terminals as they are now.
A 3 way is also a single pole. The two reds together in a connector. One of the blacks is a switch wire the other is the neutral. Dont worry about having two reds and a black this is quite normal. Connect the black wire to the other brass screw. There were 2 red and 2 black wires connected to the 4 terminals.
