Bilge pump won t turn on. You may have to disconnect the battery to stop the pump. Went out and bought a new one wired it up and noticed that one of the wires to the switch had came lose. Help bilge pump wont turn off. Its the first heads up that you might be taking on water. Took my boat out yesterday everything running fine but when i turned off my boat my bilge pump was still running even when the switch was in the off position. I see that way before i would notice water shooting out the thru hull.

When it floats high enough an electrical connection is made turning the pump on. So i bought a speedster and when i got it. Connected that it worked as far as manually turning it on goes not sure about automatic the replacement. You should be able to replace just the float switch.
If not then its probably a wiring issue or as you think a bad float switch. Anyone know what would be causing this. Torcano there is a little knob on the side of the float switch. The only way i got it to turn off is by turning the batteries off completely. Forums for all owners. The indicator light on the switch panel remains lit whether or not the 12vdc power is on and the pump runs.
This thread is archived. The float switch is normally installed near the submersible bilge pump itself and often looks like a white plastic block on a hinge though it can be other shapes and colors. I checked the float switch and it appears to work ok. New comments cannot be posted. If you turn it counter clockwise i believe it should activate the bilge pump. There should also be a switch at the helm to override the automatic float switch enabling you to turn on the pump manually.

Yes the light on the switch is a nice indicator that tells you when your bilge comes on in auto mode. A float switch works by floating upwards as water fills the bilge. Cutting out the float switch didnt do anything and the pump keeps running. Bilge pump wont turn off.
